Crowded Rooms

Keen young faces all around me – What do they know?
Empty spaces filled with sound, the end of the show.
Rooms like these hold all the feelings of the years.
Memories are never real, only the tears.

Crowded rooms are empty beaches,
Roaring surf but lonely sounds of drifting sand.
Could there be just one who reaches
Out, to touch, to hold my hand.

I have searched, I've traveled from one
Place until the next not knowing joy or pain,
Will I find that special someone
Who can make me feel again?

One more table, one more town –
One more woman walkin' by.
Shall I ask her to sit down?
Why am I afraid to try?

I am lonely so is she –
Two of us together, maybe we'd grow strong,
But thinking of my vanity,
The moment passes – she is gone.

Crowded rooms are empty beaches,
Roaring surf but lonely sounds of drifting sand.
Could there be just one who reaches
Out, to touch, to hold my hand.

I have searched, I've traveled from one
Place until the next not knowing joy or pain,
Will I find that special someone
Who can make me feel again?
